Make Your Voice Heard  -  How to Testify Before the DC Council

At Elected DC, we believe that civic engagement is a powerful tool for creating change. Sharing your voice at public hearings and roundtables is one of the most direct ways to influence decisions that impact our communities. Whether you’re representing yourself or speaking on behalf of an organization, your testimony matters.

Why Testify?

Public hearings and roundtables are your opportunity to speak directly to DC Council members. Your input becomes part of the official record and can help shape policies that affect our neighborhood and city.

How to Get Involved

  1. Find Upcoming Hearings: All Council hearings and roundtables are listed on the official DC Council Calendar. Each event provides a contact person for the committee, who you can notify if you wish to testify or need more information.
  2. Request Accessibility Services: If you need language interpretation, including American Sign Language (ASL), or other accommodations, contact the committee’s designated point of contact as early as possible—ideally at least five business days before the hearing. Efforts will be made to accommodate late requests, but availability cannot be guaranteed.
  3. Accessible Hearing Rooms:
    • Hearing Room 500 features an FM System.
    • Hearing Rooms 412, 120, and 123 offer audio induction loop technology.
    • All hearing rooms provide closed captioning on large screens.

Please notify the appropriate committee contact at least one business day in advance if you need these services.
